Firstly, because it’s free.  This allows individuals or businesses to make a risk free excursion into data science without investing in expensive licences.  Secondly, R is a versatile and widely used platform with many similarities to the most popular commercial platform, MATLAB.  R studio is easy to use, expandable and used by thousands of businesses and academic institutions across the world.  It’s also flexible enough to meet the growing needs of the single user and larger organisations.

Testimonials

“Stephen ran an excellent introductory course in R for me. I was delighted with the progress I was able to make, thanks to his excellent tuition, and I would definitely recommend him.” – Michael O’Connel, Director, Aspire Highland

“Would highly recommend Stephen. He prepared and delivered be-spoke training to introduce our team to coding with R in both classroom and one-to-one settings, accommodating different abilities within the team. Stephen tailored the training to be relevant to the types of data our team handles and combined this alongside relevant statistical analysis and practical experience, resulting in effective learning that the team are utilising today.
In addition to the training Stephen developed code to extract, process and analyse large data sets, reducing manual processing time from weeks to hours. Stephen also built applications using R-Shiny to view data and build models in an interactive format predicting outcomes by manipulating process parameters. These tools are used to drive process improvements and assist in day to day decision making activities.
Stephen demonstrated a strong work ethic, fully maximising his time by planning his workload in advance whilst also adapting quickly to changes in the team’s day to day activities and ad-hoc requests.”Anna Salgado, Senior Director of Product Improvement, Lifescan Scotland

“Enjoyed working with Stephen Mackintosh on the Modelling of Electrochemical Blood Glucose Sensors.  His knowledge of the modelling and simulation aspects was excellent and I learned alot from him. And his grasp of the chemistry and kinetics underpinning it was rapid and thorough.” – Jamie Rodgers, Senior Scientist, Inside Biometrics

“I’ve benefited from models and simulations Stephen has delivered (across multiple subject domains). He is not only expert in delivery but skilled in educating diverse audiences in the design, development and outputs of his work.” – Alan McNeilage, Senior Data Manager, Lifescan Scotland

“I have worked alongside Stephen for a number of years in his capacity as a Statistician and Data Modeller and his wealth of knowledge in the subjects is extensive. He can quickly and efficiently solve complex problems whilst working individually as well as being a highly regarded and skilled trainer in the subject.” – Jeffrey Rodger, Senior Statistician
